I coil these vessels using stoneware clay, with fine coils which enables me to change the shape of the piece and keep the walls thin. I make use of parts of my hands as aids to shape the curves.
Whilst I start with an idea of a shape in my mind I do allow the piece to ‘grow’ in the making.
When the form is finished and dried, I sand down the pieces until they are very smooth and then apply a slip decoration by spraying and by hand painting. Afterwards I spray on a very light glaze to bring out the colours. Some pieces are glazes without slip.
